Geography, environment, and contacts with other people

Geography, environment, and contacts with other people shaped the institutions and values of Persians and Greeks in a variety of ways. Geography was valued for its location. The environment was depended on for its resources. Finally, a contact with other people was significant for its benefits towards a society as a whole.

Like I said, geography was valued for its location. Mountains, seas, deserts, and plains are all factors that contribute to a society's well-being. Advantages of geography are natural boundaries, a form of transportation and trade, and fertile soil for agriculture. Sometimes, you had to artificially change the geography of a location to make it more suitable for farming in a process called irrigation.

The Environment is valued for its resources. Persians and Greeks, alike, exploited the environment for natural resources, such as copper, tin, gold, and silver. Trees, waterways, and herbs and fruits were all a desirable part of the environment. Game and hunting also marked a crucial point in Persian and Greek life.

Contacts with other peoples were valued because of its benefits towards a society. If you come into contact with a neighboring tribe you could decide to conquer them and, over a pattern of invasions, start an empire. On the other hand, you might want to form alliances. That could come in handy during a war. Trading also definitely benefits a society. Just think of all those imported foods, tools, and such.

After looking into all these different aspects and how they shaped the institutions and values of Persians and Greeks in a variety of ways, you can appreciate how significant to history they were. Without an ideal location/geography how can a society flourish? Resources from the environment aided in the growth of an early society. Contact with other people was a major, if not the most, significant and contributing aspect to the success of a Persian and Greek society.
